Joffrey Lupul isn’t afraid to think it, say it or try to do something about it.

With regards to the final playoff push coming soon now that the NHL regular-season finish line is in plain sight, the Maple Leafs winger wants to be in a different type of race.

Forget about putting fans and teammates through the daily grind of sneaking into a bottom slot of the Eastern Conference and focus instead about surging for a home-ice date when the post-season begins a month from now.

“You always want to set goals looking at teams ahead of you,” Lupul said following a Saturday afternoon practice at the Capitals practice facility in the Washington suburbs. “If you start worrying about teams playing behind you and who they are playing tonight, that’s probably not a great mentality to have.
