For weeks, they’ve harped, internally and publicly, on going into the Olympic break on a high.
With 11 victories in 14 games since a four-game losing streak that had some calling for coach Randy Carlyle’s head, consider it mission accomplished.
“We’re maturing as a group but we are playing some solid hockey too,” captain Dion Phaneuf said after the Leafs beat the visiting Vancouver Canucks 3-1 at the Air Canada Centre.
“We have talked about not looking ahead to the break, and playing well and building momentum going in, setting ourselves up and feeling good about the game.
“We have done that.”
