TAMPA, FLA. - Jonathan Bernier did his job, again.
This time, his Maple Leafs teammates pulled their weight.
A couple of nights after they stunk in a loss against the Florida Panthers, the Leafs shed a slow start and beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-1 on Thursday.
Bernier was headed for his second shutout of 2013-14 until rookie Ondrej Palat scored with under 10 minutes remaining, but otherwise was sharp in a 33-save performance at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
The Leafs weren’t about to send their dads home with another loss.
Lightning goalie Ben Bishop, who made 21 saves through two periods, did not return for the third because of an upper-body injury. Bishop was replaced by Cedrick Desjardins, and it didn’t take long for the Leafs to give him a rude welcome.
