There is not much positive to say about the Maple Leafs game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night.

Scratch that. There is nothing positive to say about the Leafs game against the Hurricanes on Thursday night, a 6-1 drubbing that makes it three straight losses for Toronto.

Three straight losses in which the Leafs have been outscored by a lopsided 18-5.

Brutal, inexplicable, unthinkable, especially for a team that started the season off so strongly and looked destined to finish the campaign in the top half of the Eastern Conference.

But that seems oh so long ago.

Since the start of December the Leafs have played 18 games. They have won just seven — and only two of those wins came in regulation. Hard to believe.

Last night, the Leafs hit the ice crawling against the Canes in Raleigh, N.C.

Outhustled, outskated, outmuscled — and now outside of the playoff picture — it might just be time to hit the panic button.

Fans in Leafs Nation are certainly starting to panic, with social media lighting up with calls for coach Randy Carlyle’s head.
