TORONTO - Randy Carlyle crossed his fingers for effect.

The Maple Leafs head coach was giving his post-game press conference on Friday night in the aftermath of another white-knuckle shootout, this time a win against the Buffalo Sabres, when the topic of injuries arose — specifically, the fact his team is seemingly about to be at its healthiest this season.

Not that injuries can, or will, ever be used as an excuse, but the Leafs — bruised, battered and woeful throughout the month of December and beyond — will certainly be welcoming Tyler Bozak back with open arms when they close out the first half of the season at home against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday night.

As scheduled, Toronto’s top-line centre, his torn oblique healed, is poised to come off the injured reserved list, and, barring something unforeseen, will suit up against the Hurricanes.
