TORONTO - On the day Dion Phaneuf returned to work after presumably munching on Christmas turkey, his legion of critics was already referring to him as one before the first intermission had even arrived.

Phaneuf was on the ice just 7:01 into the game when Matt Moulson outmuscled a number of Maple Leafs to whack in a rebound and give the lowly Buffalo Sabres a 1-0 lead at the Air Canada Centre on Friday night.

Less than a minute later, Phaneuf was sitting on the Leafs bench when John Scott — the same John Scott who had called him “Princess Phaneuf” earlier this season — scored his first goal since 2009.

Twitter blew up the moment Scott raised his stick to celebrate, with many claiming Phaneuf really was a “Princess.”
