TORONTO - Two people not surprised by Alex Steen's scoring prowess: Pat Quinn and Alexander Mogilny.

In Steen's rookie year with the Maple Leafs, the club held training camp in Sweden. In the early part of camp, Quinn was so impressed with Steen, he put him on a line with Mogilny, the world-class playmaker.

After a few days, Quinn shuffled his lines and Mogilny came back to see the coach. "You can put that kid on my line any time," Mogilny told Quinn.

"He has terrific natural instincts," Quinn said the other day at the Hockey Hall of Fame, relating the story. "I liked him as a player right away and I always liked his dad (Thomas) as a player. It just took some time for him like it does for a lot of kids."
