TORONTO - Nazem Kadri’s brain drain has left the Maple Leafs without his services for the next three games.

The Maple Leafs centre will out of the lineup for back-to-back tilts against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday and Saturday plus Tuesday’s home date with the New York Islanders after he was suspended for three games on Thursday for ploughing into Minnesota goalie Niklas Backstrom in Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to the Wild.

According to NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan, Kadri was punished because he “recklessly collided with Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom, delivering a forceful blow to the head that caused an injury.”

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Kadri will forfeit $44,615.37 The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
