David Clarkson’s time has come. While the Maple Leafs have given the pricey free agent plenty of latitude after a 10-game suspension scrubbed his launch, the next few games for the under-manned team are vital for him to make more of a statement. So the timing of the New Jersey Devils visit on Friday is perfect, though Clarkson assures he cut the cord the July day he signed with the Leafs for seven years at $36.75 million US. “I’m not someone who dwells (in the past),” Clarkson said Wednesday at the MasterCard Centre. “They’ll always be close to my heart and I have a lot of best friends on the team. But this is the next chapter of my life and I look forward to it.
