TORONTO - A hospitalized Dave Nonis did not get to experience the excitement of the team's home-opening shootout win first-hand.

The Maple Leafs general manager began feeling nauseous during the game against the Ottaewa Senators and departed the club’s private box at the Air Canada Centre during the second period.

Team doctors at ice level checked him out and it was decided his symptoms warranted a trip to hospital where he remained overnight and was expected to be released on Sunday.

A team release said Nonis had “progressed very well”.

“We had no idea what happened,” said Leafs special advisor Cliff Fletcher. “He went out of the box very quickly.”

The 47-year-old Nonis is a native of Burnaby. B.C.
