TORONTO - Sometimes you need to be a man and stand up for yourself when your manhood is challenged.

Phil Kessel didn’t do that.

Like a big baby, the Maple Leafs superstar went to the axe instead, swinging it as if Buffalo Sabres tough guy John Scott was a tree.

He looked gutless when he not only chickened out on a challenge to fight but then violently used his stick as a weapon.

Right?

“Not right,” says Don Cherry, who you can tell is eagerly waiting for his first Coach’s Corner on CBC’s Hockey Night In Canada a week from now. “Easy for you to say, Joe. You have never fought a guy in the NHL, let alone a guy who is 6-foot-8.”

He’s got me there.

“I was really surprised John Scott dropped the gloves with Kessel,” said Grapes.

The code is you just don’t do that.
