OTTAWA - Nazem Kadri caught a break, apparently, on Thursday night.

The Maple Leafs forward escaped with just a bruised hand, coach Randy Carlyle said, after catching a puck in a pre-season game against the Ottawa Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Kadri got Leafs Nation in a panic when he departed the game early in the third period.

“It was just a puck that was dumped in and he caught it and sometimes you get a little bit of a burner,” Carlyle said. “He had an X-ray, so there was nothing broken. He just felt he could not grasp his stick. He went out and tried it, started the third period, (but) came off and said it was no good.”

Before he was hurt, Kadri scored his second goal in as many exhibition games, walking out from the corner in the second period and beating netminder Craig Anderson along the ice in the Leafs’ 3-2 win.
