SUNRISE, FLA. - Randy Carlyle wanted his players to return to their physical ways.

And how about a victory?

The Maple Leafs coach was witness to both in Toronto’s final road game of the regular season.

The Leafs were plenty more engaged in a 4-0 beating of the Florida Panthers in a BB&T Center that was about half-full despite an announced attendance of 16,484.

Phil Kessel scored two goals, bringing him to 19 on the season, and defenceman Mark Fraser did something late in the second period that should go a lot further for team morale than catching sharks together, which the Leafs did on Tuesday afternoon in the Gulf of Mexico.

During a melee in front of the Panthers’ net, Nazem Kadri had just absorbed a left-handed punch to the face from Panthers rookie Alex Petrovic when Fraser appeared and wrestled Petrovic to the ice. For his trouble, Fraser was handed a game misconduct, but we couldn’t see any problem with what he did.
