TAMPA, FLA. - Randy Carlyle will go at any length to get the point across to Nazem Kadri.

The Leafs youngster continues to be on a major learning curve, and his coach will do whatever he can to ensure the 22-year-old stays focused on what he has to do to be successful.

Well, just about everything.

“Nazzy has his ebbs and flows,” Carlyle said on Wednesday. “For him, the most consistent thing he has to do is move his feet. We’re going to harp on him, going to bark at him, kick him, coddle him ... I am not going to kiss him, though.”

Carlyle punctuated that last thought, a reference to Kadri being kissed by Don Cherry on national television in March, with a big laugh.

“He is really effective when he moves his feet,” Carlyle said of Kadri. “He can’t stand still and make plays. Simple as that.”
