TORONTO - Stepladders would’ve helped a few reporters at the MasterCard Centre on Friday when newcomers Ryan O’Byrne and Joe Colborne spoke with skates on, raising their 6-foot-5 frames a few inches higher.
O’Byrne has the best chance of playing Saturday in New Jersey, after the Leafs effort and attention span on defence suffered in a 5-3 loss to the Flyers. The intriguing tandem of O’Byrne and the recently benched Jake Gardiner was given a test drive, two days after O’Byrne was acquired from Colorado.
“It has been a long 36 hours waiting to get on the ice and get involved,” O’Byrne said. “I had a good talk with Randy Carlyle yesterday, I have a practice under my belt and now I’m going to try the systems so I can maybe get to play.”
