The man who hung those Burn The Boats signs in the Maple Leafs' room will not scorch the motivational script at the first sign of trouble.

A four-game losing streak that has many in playoff-poor Leafs Nation reaching for the Valium is the biggest test for head coach Randy Carlyle's carefully contructed wall of willpower around his team. With 18 games last season to get the measure of club psyche, then the long off-season and lockout, Carlyle had a chance to craft a message to which players in the volatile Toronto market could relate.
