Count Nazem Kadri among those who would enjoy seeing the Detroit Red Wings play in the same division as the Toronto Maple Leafs.
His reasons have as much to do with geography as anything.
Kadri is a native of London, Ont., which happens to be smack dab between Toronto and Detroit — a little closer to Motown, if you want to be exact — along Hiway 401.
Whether it be the Jays-Tigers baseball rivalry or the split hockey loyalties between the Leafs and Red Wings, Kadri’s home town has always been a hot spot for debate between fans of Toronto and Detroit sports teams.
“Certainly they are a good team and would make the east stronger,” Kadri said on Monday. “They’ve been a model organization in the NHL for a long time.
“But it would be more than that. Toronto and Detroit have a great history, a great hockey tradition. Being in the same division would really get the rivalry cranked up again, especially in southern Ontario.
