The game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night represented the Leafs’ fourth in six nights, with three on the road, and the fatigue factor looked to finally take a toll on Randy Carlyle’s squad in a 4-2 loss.
Still, it’s a measure of Carlyle’s preparation and organization skills that his club did anything but sleep-walk through most of the contest. The Leafs lost, but did hold the Lightning to only 19 shots.
Toronto fought back to tie the game after falling behind 1-0 early in the first.
However, their fatigue began to show in the second period when they stopped moving their feet and began to take penalties, and that carried over into the third, though they did turn it on in the last three minutes, just missing a third goal on a couple of occasions. The loss was only Toronto’s third in 10 games on the road.
