In the heat of the moment, Randy Carlyle didn’t have time to think of the long-term consequences.
So when James Reimer went down with what the team is calling a lower-body injury in the second period of Monday’s 5-2 win over the Flyers the reaction was “who’s next?”
After Ben Scrivens went on in relief to secure the win, the team’s initial evaluation of Reimer was mixed: He won’t be returning to the lineup any day now, but pending further testing on Tuesday, the team’s No. 1 goaltender isn’t expected to be out for an extended period.
“It won’t be a long, drawn-out process,” Carlyle said after the Leafs second home victory of the season. “We’ll have to make a decision (on whether another goalie will be called up) after an assessment (on Tuesday). We don’t think it’s that serious and he shouldn’t miss an extended period of time.”
