Leafs/Canes game sheet will be a prized memento for Brothers Staal

TORONTO - One day in the not-so-distant future, the official game sheet from Monday’s 4-1 Carolina Hurricanes victory over the Maple Leafs will somehow find its way onto the wall of the Staal household in Thunder Bay.

That is, if oldest brother Eric has a say in it.

“I’m definitely going to try to get it,” Eric told the Toronto Sun. “It’s one of those special mementos you have in your career.”

What makes this particular piece of paper so special is that it reflects the first time that Staal brothers Eric and Jordan scored as teammates in the same National Hockey League game. Jordan notched Carolina’s first goal of the evening at 1:21 of the second while Eric added his own exactly nine minutes later.

“It was really cool to come into the dressing room after the second with us up 2-1 and see the sheet with the names J. Staal and E. Staal under goal scorers,” Eric said. “It’s something we won’t forget.

“It was really nice to see Jordan get his first goal for us.”
