TORONTO - The Maple Leafs have added another big body.

Forward Frazer McLaren is expected to join the Leafs at practice on Friday, the team said in a release.

The Leafs on Thursday afternoon claimed McLaren off waivers from the San Jose Sharks. He’s 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds and has played in one game for the Sharks this season, recording zero points and no penalty minutes.

His addition would help fill the hole left by Mike Brown, who has been placed on injured reserve and will be out at least a week with a strained shoulder.

In 26 games for Worcester of the American Hockey League, McLaren had one assist and 87 penalty minutes.

McLaren, a 25-year-old native of Winnipeg, has played in 40 games for the Sharks since the club picked him 203rd overall in 2007. In those games with San Jose, McLaren has one goal, five assists and 85 penalty minutes.

Carlyle has been clear on his emphasis on having more muscle, and McLaren will bring that.
