On another day, Colton Orr might be flattered to be the lead editorial in a national newspaper.
But Toronto’s fourth-liner was irked when told the Globe and Mail was questioning the team’s wisdom for allowing him back in the linuep after a serious concussion two years ago. Under the headline “Should Colton Orr be allowed to play?” it was suggested Orr and the Leafs are risking his well-being now and in the future because of an uncertain concussion history, and that fan pressure for Orr to fight isn’t helping.
Certainly there is a spotlight on concussions in pro sports these days, as hockey fighters in particular can face trouble down the road with CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy).
Orr missed the second half of the 2010-11 season after a hard hit by George Parros of the Anaheim Ducks and his comeback attempt was thwarted when the Leafs demoted him midway through last season, partly for salary-cap relief. But he made the most of the lockout layoff, came to camp
