MONTREAL - Randy Carlyle’s stamp on the Maple Leafs continued to be felt on Saturday morning.

Carlyle named forwards Joffrey Lupul and Clarke MacArthur alternate captains. In a nod to the veteran leadership of Jay McClement, who played in his first game as a Leaf against the Montreal Canadiens, Carlyle said the 29-year-old would be the alternate captain if Lupul or MacArthur was out of the lineup.

“I had no idea,” MacArthur said. “You want to try to lead and do what you have to do, and if you get recognized, it’s an honour.”

Dion Phaneuf remains the captain.

Four players — Mikhail Grabovski, Mike Komisarek, Phil Kessel and Colby Armstrong — wore the A last season.

“I’m pretty excited about it,” McClement said.
