Maple Leafs' James Reimer must prove his worth
GM Dave Nonis stands by his No. 1 goaltenderBy DAVE HILSON, QMI Agency
TORONTO - In his final news conference on Saturday afternoon, ousted Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke said he still believes in James Reimer, that the young netminder is skilled enough to be a starting goalie in the National Hockey League. While it really doesn’t matter what the departed GM thinks anymore, you can bet the man who has taken over from him, Dave Nonis, wants to believe the same thing. In fact, Nonis got behind Reimer at a news conference held at the MasterCard Centre on Sunday morning, the first gathering in which the Maple Leafs appeared as a team since the NHL and the players’ association both signed off on a new collective bargaining agreement to officially end the lockout. “No, we don’t need to make a move,” Nonis said when asked yesterday if the Leafs needed an upgrade in net. |
