Reimer 'really close' to return
By LANCE HORNBY, QMI Agency
TORONTO - Who was that man in the black mask?
James Reimer had new facial gear and a net all to himself on Tuesday at the MasterCard Centre and he should get the real thing in less than a week. Coach Ron Wilson projected the injured netminder would be ready to back-up by Saturdayís game in Boston and make the logical step of replacing Jonas Gustavsson on Monday night in New York. By then it would be more than six weeks since the Brian Gionta hit scrambled his eggs.
ďIím really close,Ē Reimer said on Tuesday, after Gustavsson and Ben Scrivens rotated in the other net.
Reimerís black mask was not the much anticipated Optimus Reim paint job that he was going to roll out before he was hurt. He says it was just a new model he was trying out and that heíll likely have the old one when he returns, perhaps with added protection.
Asked if he was maybe delaying his return to skip the Boston series and the likes of Milan Lucic and the physical Bruins, Reimer replied ďNot at all. Iím not worried about the injury. Itís not like Iím cautious or itís in the back of my mind. Itís good and Iím ready to go.Ē
