TORONTO - Keith Aulie's poor training camp with the Maple Leafs cost him on Monday morning.

The Leafs defenceman was cut, along with centre Mike Zigomanis, by the club.

Placed on waivers were centre Darryl Boyce, winger Joey Crabb and defenceman Matt Lashoff. If they clear by Tuesday at noon, they likely will be sent to the Marlies.

The cuts mean that defenceman Jake Gardiner has made the team. Ditto for centre Philippe Dupuis, who was signed to a two-way contract after playing in 74 games last season with the Colorado Avalanche.

Boyce, in 48 games with the Leafs last season, had five goals and eight assists. Aulie, paired mostly with Dion Phaneuf in 2010-11, had two goals in 40 games. Crabb had three goals and 12 assists in 48 games.

The lines at practice on Monday were Mikhail Grabovski between Nikolai Kulemin and Matt Frattin; Tyler Bozak between Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul; Dupuis between Colby Armstrong and Clarke MacArthur (who is suspended for the first two games); and Matthew Lombardi between Mike Brown and Jay Rosehill.

Colton Orr was the 13th forward. Tim Connolly, nursing an upper-body injury, skated by himself, with pucks, before practice.

The Leafs have to submit their 23-man roster to the NHL by Wednesday afternoon. The season opener is Thursday night at the Air Canada Centre versus the Montreal Canadiens.
