Leafs going after Talbot?
Allegedly trying to acquire his rightsBy MIKE ZEISBERGER, QMI Agency
TORONTO - Are the Maple Leafs interested in 2009 Stanley Cup hero Max Talbot? Rumblings out of both Pittsburgh and Toronto on Tuesday suggested the Leafs were allegedly trying to work out a deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the rights for the gritty forward, a pending unrestricted free agent. If the reports are accurate, the Leafs, in the event of a trade, would have exclusive negotiating rights with Talbot in an attempt to hammer out a deal prior to the opening of free agent frenzy on Friday. Talbot, who reportedly turned down a recent three-year offer from the Penguins, scored eight goals and 13 assists in 2010-11 while earning a salary of $1.05 million US. He scored both Pens goals in their Stanley Cup-winning Game 7 victory over the Detroit Red Wings in the 2009 final. Meanwhile, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Pens are hoping to ink Jaromir Jagr once free agency starts. Sources told the publication that the Jagr camp would like to have the parameters of a deal done by then, even though the veteran forward, 39, can not officially sign until Friday. |
