Reimer needed the rest

DENVER Ron Wilson has heard the stinging criticism he took for not starting James Reimer in the second of back-to-back games last week, but the Maple Leafs coach is standing by the call.

In fact, Wilson said on Wednesday that if Reimer had played in what was eventually a gutting loss to the Florida Panthers this past Thursday, he might not have been capable of the big shutout performance Tuesday in Minnesota.

Id like to put out there that had he played in Florida, he may be dead right now from all the games, said Wilson, whose team will look for a third consecutive win on Thursday to keep in the fight for an Eastern Conference playoff berth.

Look how fresh he is. In three of his previous five starts, he wasnt very sharp and hes back to being sharp again.

Veteran backup J-S Giguere says he has noticed it as well, believing that Reimer has sharpened his positional play.

Hes been playing unbelievable, Giguere said. Hes on the dot and really square. The break did him good.
