Leafs call up Kadri and Lashoff

TORONTO - As the Leafs charter headed south to North Carolina Tuesday afternoon for a crucial game against the Hurricanes, it had a couple of new passengers.
A team official confirmed that the Leafs have recalled forward Nazem Kadri for the back-to-back games in Carolina and Florida. Kadri, who has spent the bulk of his rookie season with the AHL Marlies, will replace injured forward Colby Armstrong, who suffered a broken foot on Monday night.
Defenceman Matt Lashoff, who practised with the team Tuesday at the Air Canada Centre, cleared waivers and will also be on the trip to bolster the team’s struggling defensive unit.
The Leafs trail the Hurricanes by two points in the Eastern Conference playoff race but are six behind both Buffalo and Montreal. The Sabres and Hurricanes play Tuesday night in Buffalo.
With 12 games remaining, the Leafs likely need a minimum of 18 points leaving a slim margin for error if they are to stay in the playoff race.
The team’s first-round pick in the 2009 entry draft, Kadri has 41 points in 44 games with the Marlies and is a solid plus-2 as he has improved his play away from the puck. This past weekend, Kadri had three goals an two assists in three games with the Marlies.
“He’s dangerous, every time he steps on the ice, the other team has to respect him,” Marlies coach Dallas Eakins told reporters following Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Texas. “It was a good weekend for a him, a great development weekend.”
