In one awkward shot, James Reimer went from a goalie with the hot hand to a sore one.
But the big Maple Leafs rookie was back on the ice at Wednesday’s practice having survived the scare and feeling no pain.
“It feels fine - there’s no swelling or bruising or anything,” Reimer said, looking at his catching hand that had taken the shot in overtime the previous night on Long Island.
“The puck just hit it at the right spot. My hand kind of exploded and went numb everywhere. I fully expected it to be broken when I pulled it out of my glove. When I wasn’t, I was surprised and relieved as the same time.”
Reimer is scheduled to make his 12th consecutive start Thursday against the Flyers as the Leafs intend to keep riding that hot (and healthy) hand.
