Komisarek accused of punching woman in nightclub

TORONTO - Gossip website TMZ is reporting that Leafs defenceman Mike Komisarek has been accused of “punching” a woman in the face at a Hollywood nightclub, according to a report filed with the LAPD.
The incident allegedly occurred while the Leafs were in Los Angeles to take on the Kings on Jan. 10 as part of a four-game road trip.
According to TMZ, the LAPD said the 28-year-old defenceman was named in a police report filed by a woman who claims Komisarek decided to lift her up in the air at the club. TMZ says the woman claims she demanded Komisarek put her down, but he refused so she slapped him in the face. Then, according to the website, Komisarek immediately put her down and punched her in the face, causing her to bleed.
The woman claims Komisarek left the club and she went to the police. TMZ said investigators are hoping to speak with Komisarek as soon as they get the chance.
Komisarek was not available for comment after the Leafs’ optional skate on Saturday morning ahead of the team’s game with the Washington Capitals, and coach Ron Wilson said the Leafs didn’t know anymore about the alleged incident than what had been reported by the website.
“This (kind of accusation) is pretty common in sports or for movie stars … so you just have to deal with it, live with it,” Wilson said after the optional skate Saturday.
Wilson said he was sure the accusation would bother Komisarek “until everything gets cleared up, but that’s the age we live in.”
There was a Tweet floating around cyberspace after the TMZ report came out saying that while it was doubtful Komisarek had punched the woman, it wouldn’t be surprising if Komisarek made a pass at her and that it was unsuccessful. This was a direct poke at the on-ice woes Komisarek has been having this season.
“Everyone can sit behind a computer and write information or make stuff up or whatever the case is,” fellow Leafs defenceman Luke Schenn said. “Mike is a good character guy and I think he has thick skin.”
