Special glasses for Armstrong

EL SEGUNDO, Cal. - Colby Armstrong was asked if he was going to wear a visor for Monday’s game against Los Angeles.

Squinting at his inquistor through a right eye patch and giant movie star sunglasses the Maple Leaf winger deadpanned: “I think I’m just going to wear these.”

Armstrong’s keen sense of humour is intact, even if his right cornea was scratched by the gloved sucker punch from big Ben Eager of the Thrashers on Friday night. Eager was nailed with a four-game NHL suspension and must cough up almost $21,000 US in salary, which coach Ron Wilson thought was just, given Eager’s less than contrite comments afterwards. But Armstrong just wants to play against the Kings after sitting out Sunday’s practice.

“I guess the league handled it the right way. I didn’t say anything to him on the ice at the time. It happened, it’s over with. I think it healed pretty quick. My eyes were watering and it was stinging, but I thinks that’s normal for a scratched cornea. I put some drops in and put the patch back on.”

Some would have thought a bare fist punch wouldn’t have done as much damage, as in most NHL fights.

“You’re definitely a little worried and never know what can happen,” Armstrong said. “I’ve been hit in the face with gloves and sticks and pucks, but he got me in the eye, in just the right spot.”

After benching Brad Richards should the New York Rangers eventually just buy him out?
  Yes.
  Might be a good idea.
  No.
  Not sure.
