TORONTO - Jean-Sebastien Giguere hasn’t watched a coach walk the plank, and no matter what some Maple Leafs fans might be wishing for, the veteran goaltender doesn’t want to experience it now.

“In my all years I have played, I have not seen a coach get fired yet, and I sure hope it’s not going to happen on my watch,” Giguere said of Ron Wilson, who remains in general manager Brian Burke’s good books despite the Leafs’ recent dismal play.

“How many games has he coached? What is he, in the top 10 in wins?”

Wilson has 590 wins as a coach in the NHL, good for seventh in league history.

“You don’t get to that point without being a good coach, without having a lot of qualities,” Giguere said. “He knows the game as much as anybody else I have met.”

And though he might not present such a side publicly, behind closed doors, Wilson’s door is open.

“If you have to talk to him, he will be more than happy,” Giguere said. “He is personable guy. We owe it to him to go out and play hard for him.”
