Phaneuf horsed around
By ROB LONGLEY, QMI Agency
Dion Phaneuf's career as a racehorse owner ended before it got to the starting gate. The Maple Leafs captain took a shot at owning a standardbred with his grandfather, Ron MacArthur, a long-time trainer in both Canada and the U.S., but he never got a chance to cash in. "I did own a horse a few years ago with my grandfather," Phaneuf said on Thursday at Woodbine where he helped with the post position draw for Sunday's $1 million Woodbine Mile thoroughbred race. "My experience wasn't that good. My horse never raced, it got hurt training. But I've been involved and been around horses for a long time." Phaneuf spends his summers in Prince Edward Island and said that when MacArthur visits, the two often attend the races at Charlottetown and Summerside Raceways. |
