Leafs win Cup? Don’t bet on it

TORONTO - The folks who set the Las Vegas betting lines don’t have much faith in Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke or his team.

The Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders are listed as 75-1 long-shots to win the Stanley Cup next year by the Boddog.ca website.

The Leafs, who lack both a legitimate No. 1 and

No. 2 centre and don’t have a pick before the third round of the NHL entry draft, haven’t made the playoffs since 2004.

The Oilers, who finished dead last in the NHL this past season, have the No. 1 over-all pick in the draft, but Vegas line-setters don’t expect whoever they select — Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin— will have an immediate impact.

The Vancouver Canucks rate as Canada’s best shot at a Cup in 2011, at 15-1 odds. The Ottawa Senators are 22-1, the Calgary Flames 25-1 and the Montreal Canadiens, 30-1.

Apparently, Boddog.ca thinks the Habs over-achieved in last year’s playoffs.

The Chicago Blackhawks, the reigning Stanley Cup champs, have the best odds at 11-2.

They are followed by the Pittsburgh Penguins (6-2) and Washington Capitals (13-2).

Steve Yzerman’s Tampa Bay Lightning are a 60-1 choice to win the Cup, while Burke’s former team, the Anaheim Ducks are 40-1 long-shots.
