The Tampa Bay Lightning is five points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and Maple Leafs defenceman Tomas Kaberle would like to keep it that way.

"We want to battle against teams that want to make the playoffs," Kaberle said. "We want them to not make the playoffs and that is our challenge."

Fellow Toronto defenceman Francois Beauchemin missed practice on Wednesday because he is sick, and his status for Thursday's game against the Lightning was not clear.

A FAN IN LUCA

Leafs forward Luca Caputi played against the Lightning's Steven Stamkos in junior, and as such is not surprised by Stamkos' monster season.

"It's nothing shocking to me," Caputi said. "I'm glad to see he is doing well. A lot of his goals are one-timers on the power play, and he has a cannon. You have to focus on that."

A clip on YouTube shows a fight in junior between Caputi and Stamkos, but Caputi assured it was a one-off. Caputi has not received the puck that he used to score his first goal as a Leaf on Tuesday in a game against the Boston Bruins. Beauchemin retrieved the puck and tossed it to equipment manager Brian Papineau. The Leafs will have the puck mounted before giving it to Caputi.
