Leafs Report

Hard to swallow

Dion Phaneuf and Maple Leafs teammate Francois Beauchemin were among the defencemen invited to the Olympic orientation camp last summer, but of course, Hockey Canada did not include the pair in its final plans.

"I was very disappointed not being on that team, but saying that, you move forward," Phaneuf said. "It was good to see Canada come out on top. (But) the break has been long enough and it will be exciting to get out there again (Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes)."

Mice save

Leafs goaltending consultant Francois Allaire went down in a heap during practice on Monday when he was hit by a deflected puck in the face. Allaire emerged from the dressing room with a bandage on his left cheek and when he returned to the ice, the players tapped their sticks on the ice.

"It's good to see he pays the price too," Leafs goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere said, jokingly.

Not true

Speculation that former Maple Leafs Shayne Corson and Darcy Tucker will buy the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League is just that, Corson said.

"I've heard the same rumour, but it's not true," Corson, a Barrie native, said. "It's not even something we have looked into."

Loose Leafs

Forward Mikhail Grabovski (wrist) said he is about a week away from playing ... Leafs prospect Chris DiDomenico, who missed nine months with a broken leg, recently returned to the lineup with Drummondville of the QMJHL.

Would Patrick Roy make a good coach for the Colorado Avalanche?
  Yes, he's perfect
  No, he's not ready
  Bring him to Montreal!
