Van Ryn update

Defenceman Mike Van Ryn, who underwent osteotomy surgery on his knee in October and was facing a 10-month rehab, has actually started skating a little bit and said after Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday that he is a couple of months ahead of schedule, although it is still unlikely he will return this season.

Leafs host troops

The Leafs have invited more than 360 Canadian Forces personnel from CFB Borden, 8 Wing Trenton, HMCS York and Land Force Central Area, many who have served in Afghanistan, to the Toronto-Vancouver Canucks game on Saturday night at the ACC, as part of the Canadian Forces Appreciation Night. Most of the tickets were donated by season ticket holders. Prior to the game, five Forces personnel will rappel from the rafters to centre ice and Chief of Defence staff, General Walter J. Natynczyk will participate in the ceremonial faceoff.

Get Phil going

Forward Rickard Wallin, who has yet to score this season, has been a healthy scratch the last three games, but skated on a regular line in practice yesterday ... Wilson said defenceman Mike Komisarek (shoulder) underwent tests yesterday and could play on Saturday.
