PHIL HIM UP

Phil Kessel isn't paid to get assists, but thanks to a string of helpers, including one against the Lightning, he now has a seven-game points streak, longest by a Maple Leaf in the past two seasons. It includes one goal and seven assists.

POND SCUM

Players on both teams were stumbling and pucks were bouncing strangely or dying in slush as the clubs battled some tough ice conditions. A number of hot spots were treated by arena staff between periods.

BOLT BONANZA

Even with the loss, the Leafs' record in Tampa Bay at various arenas since 1998 is a healthy 20-6-4.

TAG TEAM

Leafs Jay Rosehill and Colton Orr fought Matt Walker in separate bouts in the first period ... Tampa Bay had a fiery team meeting the day before and banished rookie Victor Hedman to the press box.
