KOM BACK SOON

The Leafs played very ragged against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday and might not have big defenceman Mike Komisarek back in time to help prevent a similar situation tonight in Buffalo.

Komisarek's upper body injury might not heal in time for tonight or perhaps tomorrow's game against Pittsburgh, while Carl Gunnarsson (elbow) won't be back until next week.

PASS ON THE PRESS

Coach Ron Wilson, who is campaigning for an end to game-day skates, suggested yesterday the media should be shut out of NHL practices as football, baseball and basketball have more restricted access in their sports.

However, he chose to give the media a front row seat to a team-bashing speech yesterday to underline his anger at their poor play. And in 29 other rinks where the NHL is trying hard to sell the game 24/7, banning the media from workouts would be marketing suicide.

HITTING A WALLIN

It's official, Rickard Wallin now has the longest active goal slump in the NHL, with an explanation. He last scored on April 2, 2004, for the Minnesota Wild against Dallas, before going back to Europe to play. This season, he has gone 32 games without a goal. He's had some close calls, including the past couple of games when injuries increased his playing time with more skilled linemates, but he's still empty.

"I've never gone this many games without a goal, but never this many with so many bad bounces," Wallin said.
