Blake has fond memories of Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH - Jason Blake might be the only NHLer who might be sad to see the wrecking ball crush The Igloo in the near future.

Thanks to a key goal in the Maple Leafs 4-3 upset of the Pittsburgh Penguins Sunday night, Blake upped his career total against the Pens to 48 points in 48 games, many of which were accrued at antiquated Mellon Arena.

The Penguins are poised to move into a spiffy new building just across the street from Mellon in time for the 2010-11 campaign.

“I’ve had some good memories in this place,” Blake said. “But the new rink looks really nice. It’s good for the city.

“When I was with the Islanders we played these guys eight times a year. You’d always get up for them because of their firepower.”

After a slow start to the season, Blake now has seven goals in his past 14 games.

“Just trying to be consistent,” said Blake, who has scored nine times this season.
