Leafs report

WOUNDED BACK SOON

The Leafs lineup will likely sport a different look early in the New Year.

RW Viktor Stalberg should return after sitting out Wednesday's game against the Islanders with a shoulder injury and there are projections for defenceman Carl Gunnarsson (elbow) and centre John Mitchell (knee) to resume practising soon.

The AHL Marlies' five-day break ends tonight with four games in the next five nights with a home game tomorrow afternoon and someone possibly earning a promotion to join the Leafs in Western Canada next week.

LIGHTER LOAD

The Leafs let a few players with family ties in the New York/Long Island area stay behind after last night's game, including West Islip native Komisarek and ex-Ranger Colton Orr. All Leafs are required to be back in time for Saturday's morning skate as they take on the Canadiens that night.

ISLAND OF DREAMS

Isles' owner Charles Wang is once more at an impasse with civic officials on the long-delayed Lighthouse project to renovate aging Nassau Coliseum as part of a hotel/retail development. The Isles are still suffering at the box office and if they miss the playoffs again and no shovel is in the ground by next year, it is believed the team will be a prime candidate to relocate, at least as far at Queens or Brooklyn where other developers have invited them.

Do you think the officiating has been fair in the Kings-Sharks series?
  Yes
  No
No ... but the refs seem to be evening it out themselves
