That extra point proving elusive

The Leafs have been among the league leaders in taking games to overtime, but from that point their record has been miserable.

Of the nine occasions they have forced extra time, the Leafs have earned an added point once. Toronto's 3-2 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres was just the latest Leafs slip.

"To me, it wasn't a game we fought back to tie late, we let it get away and lost that extra point," forward Lee Stempniak said. "It's disappointing not to get the second point. It feels like we gave one away."

Leafs coach Ron Wilson says in most cases, the losses can be attributed to a breakdown in fundamentals.

"We've just made some mistakes in four-on-four," Wilson said yesterday. "The forwards and defencemen are not co-ordinating about who is covering the net."

Olympic material?

Wilson scoffed at the notion that forward Nikolai Kulemin's improved play of late might merit consideration for the Russian Olympic team.

"He's on our third line, where would he fit on the Russian team?" Wilson said. "They have a lot of good hockey players. I cannot see (Kulemin) to be honest, on the Russian Olympic team. He got off to a slow start and he's probably been forgotten."

Do you think the officiating has been fair in the Kings-Sharks series?
  Yes
  No
No ... but the refs seem to be evening it out themselves
