Leafs full of confidence

Besides moving up the standings, the Leafs recent winning streak has given the players a huge bounce as was evident in the mood at yesterday's up-tempo practice at the TD Banknorth Garden.

"It's funny, in our business when you are winning it improves the quality of life in everybody from players to coaches, to training staff ... everybody," Leafs defenceman Jeff Finger said.

"Obviously in a city like Toronto, with the horrible start we had and how bad things were, it's amazing how quickly things can change."

Loose Leafs

Thanks to back-to-back wins in Montreal and Columbus, the Leafs now have a winning record of 6-5-4 on the road ... Wilson had some fun with Phil Kessel, who was in the first scrap of his NHL career Thursday in Columbus. "I'd put him in the pillow-weight division," Wilson joked yesterday ... The Leafs should be better rested than the Bruins, who were in Montreal last night, part of the elongated 100th anniversary celebration for the Habs. The Leafs flew to Boston immediately after the Jackets win.
