PHIL OF RECORDS

The Elias Sports Bureau says Phil Kessel's 12 shots on goal against the Islanders on Monday night marked the most by a Leaf since Sergio Momesso had the same tally on Oct. 17, 1995 in a 7-2 home win against the San Jose Sharks.

Dave Andreychuk notched 15 at Winnipeg on March 23, 1993, the night he scored his 50th goal of the season and that is considered the unofficial Leafs' record in one game.

Kessel, meanwhile, achieved nine points in his first 10 games as a Leaf.

That compares to Jason Blake, who had 11 in his first 10 games two years ago, while in recent years, Eric Lindros (11), Jason Allison (10) and Jeff O'Neill (nine) all had at least nine in their first ten games as a Leaf.

SWEDE SEASON

Rookie goaltender Jonas Gustavsson has seen it all in just 12 appearances as a Leaf. He won his first NHL game, lost two in relief of Vesa Toskala, two others in overtime, one in a shootout and one on a penalty shot -- and he has been pulled. That's in addition to a heart ailment and a groin injury.

When he doesn't play or there's a break in the action, he loves to watch the scoreboard along with the fans to see the blooper videos, tributes to old Leafs, salutes to the armed forces and even the hug-cams.

"We have some of that in Sweden, but not as much as here," he said. "Everything here has been a good experience. You always learn something from everyone just being in this room."
