GUNN SHOT

Rookie Swedish defenceman Carl Gunnarsson had a memorable introduction to the Battle of Ontario.

Playing in just his second NHL game, Gunnarsson registered his first NHL point when his first period outlet pass sprung Phil Kessel, who subsequently beat Ottawa goalie Pascal Leclaire to tie the game 1-1.

SPECIAL K

When Niklas Hagman scored at 4:49 of the second period to put the Leafs up 2-1, the Finnish forward definitely caught the eye of one famous observer in the house.

Indeed, in attendance at last night's game was Jari Kurri, the NHL Hall of Famer and general manager of the Finnish Olympic team.

Among those he was watching: Hagman, the Leafs forward: Toronto goalie Vesa Toskala, who was ordinary; and Sens forward Jarkko Ruutu, who was at his irritating best for most of the night.
