MONSTER A NO-GO

Jonas Gustavsson was not ready.

Not on this night anyway.

Despite having several practices under his belt last week, The Monster was dressed in civvies while James Reimer once again backed up Joey MacDonald in goal.

Gustavsson, who has missed more than two weeks with a groin injury, said after Friday's workout that he needed another couple of practises to work himself into game shape.

Under the best-case scenario, the Leafs hope Gustavsson will be ready to go tomorrow night in Anaheim.

Burke booster

There might be more than a few Brian Burke bashers out here in Vancouver, but don't count Henrik Sedin among those critics.

"He and (Dave) Nonis were the guys that brought us here," Sedin said. "They showed a lot of confidence in us.

"To get the second and third overall picks was huge. We were young and I don't think we knew then how much work had to go into it."

Are you surprised Don Cherry backed Daniel Alfredsson's comments?
  Yes.
  No.
It's Don Cherry - who knows what he will say.
  Not sure.
