Laughing at the Leafs

The Maple Leafs haven't been the source of this much comedy material since, well, Harold Ballard began courting Yolanda.

And, Maple Leafs president and general manager Brian Burke is quickly becoming the teams latest "punchline."

"Burke's work in Toronna has been more of a crash landing," Montreal Gazette columnist Jack Todd wrote after the Leafs lost for the seventh time in as many starts Saturday at home against the New York Rangers.

"It appears that he has put together a truly awful team. Harold Ballard awful. Comedy skit awful. Big, bad and -- well, just plain bad."

Blogger Jacques Strapp (pseudonym), who pens critiques for the cheeky pucku.ca website, was equally harsh.

"I bet Toronto high school teachers are spending a good portion of their day explaining to students that 'truculence' does not mean stupid and incompetent," he wrote.

Rival NHL teams are apparently having a good laugh at the Leafs' expense as well.

"You wouldn't believe how many people in the league are loving this," one team executive told Sun Media."

Are you surprised Don Cherry backed Daniel Alfredsson's comments?
  Yes.
  No.
It's Don Cherry - who knows what he will say.
  Not sure.
