The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled Marlies goaltender Joey MacDonald this morning after placing Jonas (The Monster) Gustavsson on injured reserve.

Gustavsson, who has a slight groin muscle pull, will miss at least a week of action.

It's the second early season setback for the Swedish rookie, who missed part of training camp after doctors discovered he had an irregular heart beat.

MacDonald earned the 3-2 win by making 32 saves in the Marlies' season opener against the Hamilton Bulldogs Sunday afternoon. He joined the Maple Leafs as a free agent Aug. 10, 2009. He has previous NHL experience with the Red Wings, Bruins and Islanders.

Gustavsson appeared in two of the Maple Leafs' first three games to start the 2009-10 regular season. He has a goals against average of 3.09 in 97:27 of play. The rookie made his first career regular start on Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators at Air Canada Centre and turned aside 26 of 28 shots.

Would Patrick Roy make a good coach for the Colorado Avalanche?
  Yes, he's perfect
  No, he's not ready
  Bring him to Montreal!
