While tonight's opener against the Montreal Canadiens should answer a lot of questions about the 2009-10 Maple Leafs, it will not be the first test faced by Ron Wilson’s team this week.

During the team’s recent stay in Huntsville, Leaf players were given a quiz about the history of the franchise. Wilson handed out pamphlets documenting the tradition of the Leafs, which the players were forced to study before being tested.

“We wanted them to know and learn about the rich tradition of the Maple Leafs,” Wilson said earlier today.

“I was pretty impressed. Most of the guys knew the numbers that are honoured in the rafters (of the Air Canada Centre).”

Thanks to the process, the coach himself discovered something new about the Leafs.

“I knew Ace Bailey’s number (six) had been retired but I didn’t know it was the first number ever retired in professional sports,” said Wilson.

Asked how he did on the test, defenceman Luke Schenn chuckled.

“I think I did pretty good,” he gushed. “But we haven’t got our marks back yet.”
